1. Tell us a bit about yourself, and your background. What were you doing before joining CrossFit 121
I lost a lot of weight 7 years ago and since then I’ve been doing all types of exercise. Mainly because I like how I feel now compared to how I felt when I was overweight and I’m terrified of putting it back on. It was really hard to lose that much weight I don’t think I could do it again!
I’ve done programs in regular gyms written by personal trainers and always liked to combine lifting weights with intervals of cardio. Did a couple of years of kick boxing which I enjoyed but had too many injuries and then found CrossFit
I attended a CrossFit gym that was local to my house for a while but found it wasn’t really what I was looking for. The atmosphere didn’t suit me and they didn’t have the knowledge and experience at the time to program appropriately for mature members and I was getting injured regularly
Then I found CrossFit 121!!!
2. So far, what are your results? how are you feeling? what has changed? since joining?
When I got to 121 I was injured and my diet wasn’t healthy
I’ve learned so much from Chris and Marie about life balance and how important health is in the last 2 years. Sleep, stress management and not being obsessive about my weight or my diet.
I now drink 3 litres of water a day and have found a balance of healthy eating and healthy amount of exercise that also fits in with my work and family schedules
I’m also stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been in my life
Last year I had surgery to repair a hernia that I gave myself sneezing in a twisted position
Chris and Maria went out of their way to go above and beyond to plan a safe return to exercise with a daily modified rehab program that I could do alongside everyone in class
This supported me mentally to keep moving and made my physical recovery so much more successful
3. How did you hear about CrossFit 121?
My partner and I were too early for work one morning and we were driving around the area. We’d heard there was a CrossFit gym close by so we thought we’d see if we could find it. Like I said earlier I was looking for a new place to exercise but this was a random pot of gold find! Chris was very accomodating letting us in to have a look and ask some questions during 6am class and when I saw the unicorn on the wall I just knew I’d found my place.
And now I know I’ve found my people too!
4. What do you like about CrossFit 121?
Joining the CrossFit 121 community has changed my life. It’s not just a gym. It’s a family of like minded people getting in their daily exercise together
It’s a gym that promotes health and well being equally with fitness and every single member is given equal time and space in the gym
5. What would you say to someone that is looking at CrossFit and not sure if they should come and try CrossFit 121?
I would tell them to come join us in class and have a laugh with us while we all get a sweat going together!
6. Did you have any concerns / thoughts before starting training with us? and if so, do you have any advice for others about to start?
Yes I’ll be the first to admit I was really worried about being too unfit to do class and not being able to keep up with everyone but what I quickly realised was that every single person is working together in a group environment but at their own individual level with their own goals and it didn’t matter if you were a beginner or had lots of experience
7. If you were to recommend CrossFit 121 to a friend what would you say?
CrossFit class at 121 is absolutely the best bang for your buck you can get exercising
And by buck I don’t mean money I mean time
It’s 1 hour of well planned activity that is always different and exciting to suit each and anyone’s needs. It doesn’t matter who’s in class next to you Chris and Marie can adapt and modify the daily workout to meet any level of ability or cater for any injuries
Whether you’re trying to get a strength PB or just trying to get through the session because you’ve had a long day there is always the right amount of positive encouragement mixed with laughs!
8. What made you chose us over any other gym facility in the area?
We drive from Narre Warren 5 times a week to exercise at CrossFit 121 because we love the people and believe strongly in Chris and Maria’s knowledge and experience to teach CrossFit authentically and safely
9. What suprised you the most about joining CrossFit 121?
CrossFit 121 is filled with humble members in an environment that has more positive encouragement than ego
10. How has life changed after joining CrossFit 121?
I am happier, healthier and stronger than I have ever been and have met some amazing people along the way!
