Testimonial – Sue Young

Hi,  my name is Sue Young and at 53 years of age and approx. 106 kg, I knew it was time to make some life changing decisions.  I was always a pretty active person, but life just got in the way.

In January 2018 an ad came over social media for a six week challenge doing CrossFit.   Looks interesting I thought, I love a challenge and maybe this is what I need to get my body and health back.

So I made the call, and was asked to come into CrossFit 121 and meet with Chris to see if my goals and CrossFit would be a match.  That Saturday the 22nd of January would be a life changer for me.

First day the nerves kicked in as I’m a terrible runner in fact I didn’t run and skip, gawd, hadn’t tried that since primary school.  It was a short week, being an Australia day long weekend, but I squeezed in 3 sessions.  May I just say I had to travel to Orbost on the Friday, and I couldn’t move, I couldn’t sit or stand properly, who knew I had these muscles that I hadn’t used for years.

The second week was hard, but in a good way not a WTF way, although there was some pain, it was getting easier.  Maria, Chris and Josh are the most inspiring trainers, talking to me as an individual, working with me to get my fitness level up and adjusting workouts to help me grow.  I’ve been to Gyms, lifting classes, spin classes, swimming classes, and it’s all about the money at the door, and everyone is supposedly on the same level.  Well let me give you the heads up guys, were not.

Well I made it through the six weeks, and I was buzzing, I was going 3 times a week and my body was starting to change shape, I was changing mentally and I was achieving small goals I had set myself.  I bought a skipping rope and started practicing at home, and next thing I knew I could skip, haven’t mastered the double under yet, but I never say never now.  Running well Jogging for me, slowly I have built up to 1+ km on training nights, amazing.  It was a no brainer I continued on with CrossFit 121, I was not going anywhere else, Maria, Chris and Josh, had given me something I thought was impossible, my health and fitness was getting better and better.

I must also say that all the members at 121 are so friendly, helpful and fun, it just makes it work for me, I want to go back, everyone helps out, everyone has a positive word, you don’t get this anywhere else.

9 months in I’ve dropped down to the low 80’s and yeah I have a few more kg’s to go but there coming off.  I’m taking shape, I’m feeling stronger, I’m loving wearing great clothes again, and I love the friendships that I have built along the way.

I will always be a CrossFit 121 girl, I don’t care how far I have to travel.  It’s not just about the workout, it’s about the fun, challenges, information, teamwork and variety that makes it a winner for me.
